Arriving by plane
The closest airport is Graz Thalerhof (GRZ). From the airport, you can take the train line S5 to the main railway station or a bus to Jakominiplatz (central public transportation hub in Graz).
You can also take the train from Vienna International Airport (VIE) to Graz. (Takes about 3h; trains every hour, some direct, some requiring change of trains in Vienna)
Public transport in Graz
Graz has an efficient public transport system based on buses and trams. In July 2025, however, unfortunately, all streetcar lines are interrupted between Hauptbahnhof (mail train station) and Hauptplatz (center), due to the construction of new streetcar tracks. You can use the replacement bus service: busses E1 and E6.
Note that the streetcar lines in the inner city "Altstadt-Bim" can be used for free. The area of free service extends from Südtiroler Platz and Schlossbergplatz to Dietrichsteinplatz (quite close to our conference site) and Finanzamt.
Perhaps the easiest way to purchase a ticket is to use one of the machines in a tram or at some of the bigger stations (in particular, at the main railway station and Jakominiplatz). You can also purchase tickets at a Trafik (kiosk).
You may want to buy a weekly pass; it covers all of Graz (zone 101), including the airport, for 7 days.
